A payment gateway is the  equivalent of a credit card processing machine, it is your portal to accepting online payments (everything from card payments to direct debit payments to payments via online wallets).

Omnibasis supports a host of payment gateways with which you can get an account and start processing payments.

When you have a payment gateway (and a merchant account, depending on which payment gateway you decide to use) in place, the next step would be configuring your payment gateway in Omnibasis.

Omnibasis support as many payment gateways as you need for your business. Each Payment Gateway is associated with a currency.

Note: if you want to accept payments in one or more currencies, please make sure those currencies are defined before your create new Payment Gateway. Learn more about Currencies support on Omnibasis.

Here’s how a payment gateway works

1. Customer Makes a Purchase: The customer initiates a transaction by entering their payment information on the website or mobile device page hosted by Omnibasis.

2. Encryption: The payment information is encrypted to ensure security and is sent to the payment gateway.

3. Authorization Request: The payment gateway forwards the transaction details to the customer's bank (issuing bank) or credit card network for authorization.

4. Authorization Response: The issuing bank or credit card network checks the transaction details and sends an authorization response back to the payment gateway. This response can be an approval, decline, or request for more information.

5. Payment Confirmation: The payment gateway sends the authorization response to Omnibasis, which then communicates the result to the merchant and customer.

6. Transaction Completion: If the transaction is approved, the merchant completes the sale. The payment gateway then ensures that the funds are transferred from the customer's account to the merchant's account.
