This feature, often called Phone Number-Based Registration, allows users to register with just their phone number instead of a username. Here’s how it functions:
Phone Number as Unique Identifier: During registration, users only need to provide a phone number and set a password. The phone number becomes the unique identifier, bypassing the need for a separate username.
Phone Number Verification: Upon entering their phone number, the system sends an SMS verification code. The user must input this code to confirm ownership of the phone number, ensuring it's valid and under the user’s control.
Streamlined Login: The phone number is used as the primary login identifier, eliminating the need for a separate username. Users can log in using their phone number and password or receive a One-Time Password (OTP) to their phone for added convenience.
Password Recovery: If a user forgets their password, they can easily recover access by requesting an OTP sent to their registered phone number, making the recovery process faster and more secure.
Advantages:
- Simple Registration: Reduces steps and fields required, which can boost registration completion rates.
- Increased Security: Verifying phone numbers during registration provides an additional security measure and ensures users can be directly reached if needed.
- Convenient Login: Users only need to remember their phone number and password or use OTP-based login, avoiding the hassle of usernames.
This approach is especially useful in regions where users may not have frequent access to email or prefer to use their phone as their primary online identifier.
