Common terms

Let's cover some of the terms we use in automation.

Message

Email or SMS message, or both.

Campaign Type

One time or series of messages sent to a contact based on a specific trigger.

Campaign

Any distributed content that's created and measured, including automations.

Automation

The specific type of automation behavior. It is typically associated with a specific event that starts an automation message or series of messages. For example, someone subscribes to your newsletter or purchases a particular product.

Delay

The period of time between a trigger event and a message distribution.

Queue

A list of messages who have met an automation's criteria, and are waiting to be send at the specified date.

How Automation Works

A regular campaign sends to your contacts at the time your choice. With an automation campaign, messages are sent automatically to specific contacts as they meet your triggers and sending criteria.

Its that simple, choose an automation type, create one message or a series of messages, and set your sending criteria.

Automation uses contact data to determine who should receive your messages and when.

After you set up an automation, omniMarketer will manage your queue and messages sends, so your messages get to the right people at the right time.

What You Can Do with Automation

For businesses whose contacts have a clear path from signup to conversion or repeat engagement, automation can streamline communication.

Depending on your business model, you might send a birthday coupon once a year or a series of messages every few days.

When you use automation, you will greatly reduce the amount of time you spend on content creation and increase your ROI (return on investment).

If you connect your omniCommerce to omniMarketer, you can also use automation for transactional messages, like abandoned cart emails and order notifications.

These automations will reach anyone who abandons a cart or places an order in your store, even if they haven't subscribed to your marketing emails.

About Workflows

A workflow is the way to schedule and trigger messages when campaign is part of a workflow, like new user signup or new form submitted or new asset created.

omniMarketer offers many automation types with built-in triggers and other configuration details for common activities, but if our pre-built options don't fit your needs, you can modify them or create a custom workflow from scratch. You can also pause and edit the settings of an active automated campaign.

About Message Series

Messages series let you schedule a number of messages based on numerous triggers.

For example, after a contact receives the first message in an message series, they'll receive every message in the sequence, unless they are removed from the campaign.

Subscribers can only trigger and receive the messages in an automation one time, with the exception of date-based automations, abandoned cart messages, order notifications, and product retargeting messages.
